Skystorm dreamed.
Skystorm dreamed she was running through the rain at full-pelt. In her jaws was a plump mouse she had just killed.
"Hang on, Lily... Hang on, little sister. I'm almost there."
She skidded to a halt in front of a fallen tree. Lily was crouching under it, looking small and wretched with her fur slicked down.
"Oh, thank goodness you're back! Did anybody follow you?"
"I don't think so." Sky pushed the mouse towards her sister.
"But they're out there, aren't they?"
"...Yes. Yes, they are."
A few minutes later...
"Bloodstar, please!"
A red-and-brown tabby tom was leering at her. Sky could barely believe this bloodthirsty and cruel NightClan leader was her father.
"This is what we do to cats who break the rules." Bloodstar hissed softly. His tail snaked behind him.
"No!" Sky mewed desperately. "Leave her alone! Fight me, if you must! She's done no harm!"
"It's true. You are the ne who tried to leave NightClan. You are the one who must be punished..." He paused, clearly relishing the moment. "...And what better punishment could there be... than for you to watch your sister to die right in front of you."
Snake drew his lips back in a snarl and pinned Lily down. Hawk unsheathed his claws and swiped towards Lily.
"NO!"
"RRAAOWRR!"
Skystorm's dream dissolved into darkness. She was in her warm, dry nest again.
She realized her muscles had been tensed, ready to attack her imaginary enemy. She relaxed. Lilybreeze was in no danger from Bloodstar. Bloodstar was dead.

Skystorm dug her claws into the moss and bracken. Hawkeyes and Snaketail followed after their father. Blood-thirsty, cruel and power-hungry.
Her mother had had everything she wanted: kind Twolegs who took care of her during the day and the freedom to explore the woods beyond Twolegplace at night. But when she had been forced to leave her home, she had had to forge a solitary new life in the forest. When she had met Bloodstar, then leader of NightClan, she began to think that she might be better off joining the ranks of his Clan. But Bloodstar had had many secrets, and her mother had to decided whether she could trust him. Skystorm sighed. She wished she had the courage to take on the shadows from her dark, dark past.
